Is your site speed affecting your search ranking?
by admin
We have come across sites that take forever to load. It is hands down the most annoying thing while surfing. This time that a website takes to load completely is called as page load time. Now you may think that a long page load time cannot affect search engine bots but always remember that an ideal SEO strategy is solely dependent on users and if users are happy, the rankings are good. Even Google hates short page load time and that enough, is a reason to worry about page load time.
Generally, an e-commerce site takes 7 sec to load while normal sites take 3 sec and if you are trying to match these competitive numbers, here what you should do:
Choose proper image size
As discussed before, very heavy or large resolution images take longer time to load, affecting overall performance. Use png and jpeg images for your website and make sure you are using the right resolution image depending on need.
Abandon the bad hosts
Invest in the right hosting server which is quick and reliable and even if you have to spend some extra bucks, remember it’s worth it in the long run. Don’t host your sites on local severs.
Beware of excessive ads and media
They are of no sense most of the time and can even scare away you most loyal visitors. Avoid having ads on every corner of your website as they have tremendous effect on page speed. Media like videos slow your website. Host these media on your own servers for faster access.
Hire a good developer
Excessive and unnecessary HTML and CSS is not just complex but also affects the page load time. This can be avoided if your coder knows what he/she is doing. They will give you a complete website that is compatible with all kinds of browsers.
Ditch those plugins for your own good
Do not crowd your site with plugins and widgets because these slow your page speed and instead of enhancing the beauty of your page, they might just lure the users away. Take care while using Flash media.
Want to check your site’s page load time, test your websites through the following tools that also tell you the areas that need improvement on your site:
• YSlow
• Page Speed Insight
• OnCrawl
Even if this doesn’t greatly affect SEO, it is sure to attract more leads and make more visitors happy, without doubt.
